Topeka ? Budding math and science whizzes take note.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius signed into law a bill establishing the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science.

The measure sets into motion the startup of an academy for accelerated math and science programs for advanced high school juniors and seniors.

The Kansas Board of Regents will be in charge of developing the program and determining whether it will be conducted at a university, online or a combination of the two.

The two-year curriculum will include courses designed to meet requirements for high school graduation and associate’s degrees.

A total of 40 students will be admitted.

Twenty will be chosen based on residence, with no more than five residing in a single congressional district, and 20 will be picked without regard to residence.
