Couric headed for CBS?

New York – Katie Couric isn’t talking, but everyone else is.

Couric, star of NBC’s “Today” show is about to switch networks, and trade in morning talk for the evening anchor chair, according to a non-network person close to the negotiations. She reportedly will succeed Bob Schieffer as anchor of “CBS Evening News” and become a regular on “60 Minutes.”

Representatives for NBC, CBS and Couric would not comment Tuesday on the discussions. But speculation about the move has been rampant for nearly a year. Her contract with NBC is up in May.

Couric’s first day as “Today” anchor was April 5, 1991, and the morning show plans to mark that anniversary on the air today.

She has been paired the last nine years with Matt Lauer.

Wedding question tensions

New York – Silence. Awkward silence.

That was Jennifer Aniston’s tightlipped response on Tuesday morning’s “Today” show when asked about the latest rumor that Oprah Winfrey is planning to host an $8 million wedding for her and beau Vince Vaughn.

The moment grew still more awkward when Aniston’s “Friends with Money” co-star, Catherine Keener, weighed in on her behalf. “I thought you weren’t going to go there,” she told entertainment correspondent Jill Rappaport. “But you did.”

Earlier in the interview segment, which also included co-star Joan Cusack, Aniston said she gives interviews to promote a movie, not her personal life.

Rappaport explained she was curious about the wedding rumors, saying, “When you hear about an $8 million wedding, you’d like to be invited.”

“And now you won’t be,” quipped Keener, drawing laughs from Rappaport, Aniston and Cusack.

Rap mogul seeks bankruptcy

Los Angeles – Death Row Records is on death row.

Rap music mogul Marion “Suge” Knight is seeking federal bankruptcy protection, according to his lawyer, and the future of Death Row Records is up in the air. Death Row’s stable of artists in the 1990s included popular West Coast stars like Snoop Dogg and Tupac.

Knight was hit hard when a $107 million judgment was awarded to Lydia Harris, a former associate who claimed she helped start the rap record empire with her former husband, Michael Harris.

The rap impresario doesn’t have $107 million, says his lawyer Laurence Strick.

Knight failed to appear at a Superior Court-ordered debtor hearing Saturday, triggering legal actions that a judge had warned would place his Death Row Records in receivership.
