Lions’ Wilson wins another golf crown

? Lawrence High’s Sydney Wilson continued her run of first-place finishes, picking up her third consecutive individual championship Monday at the Shawnee Mission East Invitational.

Wilson shot an 81 at the Kansas City Country Club, three shots better than any other competitor.

Jamie Shmalberg finished second for the Lions with a 102, and Kalli McClure rounded out the team scoring with a 120.

“I was proud with how all three girls played,” Lawrence High coach Mike Lewis said. “Kansas City Country Club is a tough course, and none of three had played there before. That usually makes for a longer day, but they did a nice job.”

Brittany Laughlin also competed for the Lions, but was forced to withdraw after the second hole because of an ankle injury.

With only three girls finishing their rounds, LHS was eliminated from the team competition.
