Patchy fog and temperatures in the 50s greeted Lawrence area residents who were headed out this morning, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“You do want to be careful on your way out,” Schack said. The fog was developing over water sources and low-lying areas, she said.

At 7:30 a.m., the 6News TowerCam showed that the Kansas River bridge north of Lawrence’s downtown was so shrouded in fog that you couldn’t see across the river. It also showed fog was obscuring the skyline of Lawrence’s downtown. Patchy fog was reducing visibility in some areas of Lawrence to less than a quarter of a mile, Schack said.

She said once the fog burns off, Lawrence will have clear skies for the rest of the day.

“It’s a cool start. I think you’ll need a jacket or at least long sleeves on your way out,” Schack said.

The temperature at 7:30 a.m. was 54 degrees, the humidity was 94 percent and winds were calm.

“We’re heading up to a high temperature of 83 degrees today,” she said. Winds will be from the south at 5 to 15 mph, she said.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to 60 degrees by early Wednesday morning, she said. Clouds will arrive on early Wednesday morning.

The temperature will warm up to only 68 degrees by 11 a.m. on Wednesday, when a cold front moves in, bringing a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late morning, Schack said. Winds will shift from southerly to northerly, at 10-18 mph, gusting to 25 mph. Skies will clear out on Wednesday evening.

Overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning, the low temperature will fall to 40 degrees, she said.

Thursday ‘s high temperature will be 69 degrees, with clear skies.
