County OKs contract for bridge replacement

Douglas County commissioners Monday unanimously approved a $36,467 contract with an engineering firm to provide services for replacing a bridge in southwest Douglas County.

The county will contract BG Consultants to design a bridge for County Road 1023. The bridge crosses Rock Creek five miles west of Lone Star Lake. Built in 1949, the bridge now handles about 60 vehicles per day.

It will cost an estimated $423,000 to replace the bridge, with expenses split between the county and the Kansas Department of Transportation.
