Temperatures cooling into low 50s overnight

Get set for a cool night tonight, but temperatures will rebound on Tuesday afternoon, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

At 5:30 p.m. temperature in Lawrence was 77 degrees, with northerly winds at 3 to 8 mph. The humidity was 65 percent.

“We drop off to 50 for an overnight low,” Schack said. Winds will be southwesterly at 5 to 10 mph, she said. The National Weather Service says patchy fog will develop after 3 a.m.

But the cool weather won’t last long Tuesday morning. With south-southwest winds and mostly clear skies, temperatures will climb Tuesday to a high of 83 degrees, she said. The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m.

Wednesday’s morning low temperature will start at 56 degrees, with the high temperature climbing to 75 about noon as a cold front arrives, bringing the chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, Schack said.

The National Weather Service says there’s a 50 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday. Winds are expected to shift from the south to the northwest, coming in at 10 to 15 mph and gusting as high as 30 mph.

Schack said temperatures will begin falling after noon on Wednesday, plunging to a low of 42 degrees by early Thursday morning.
