Strong second half keys Veritas win

? Sophomore Marcus Holman rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns and added two scoring catches as Veritas Christian improved to 4-0 with a 46-29 football victory Friday night against Wichita Trinity Academy.

“They’re a good team,” said Veritas coach Doug Bennett. “They’ve got great team speed, which really gave our line fits.”

The Eagles broke open a 14-all halftime tie with two third-quarter scores and scored three more times in the final frame to put the game away.

Holman had scoring runs of 62 and 56 yards and caught touchdown strikes of 45 yards and 37 yards from quarterback Casey Woods.

Woods finished 12-of-18 for 204 yards, and senior fullback Jesse Schultz ran for 189 yards on 15 carries and two scores as Veritas racked up more than 600 yards in total offense.

“We came out flat in the first half and didn’t play very well,” Bennett said. “But the guys regrouped and just executed a lot better in the second half on both sides of the ball.”

The Eagles will return to action Friday at Tyro Christian.
