Report: Corn, bean harvests advancing

Corn harvest and wheat planting gained momentum this past week amid higher temperatures and scattered showers across the state, Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service said Monday.

About 16 percent of the 2006 wheat crop has been planted, the agency said.

In its weekly crop weather update, the service also reported that 30 percent of corn had been harvested in Kansas, along with about 2 percent of soybeans.

In its latest crop condition update, the service reported:

¢ About 76 percent of the Kansas corn crop is mature. Corn condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 37 percent good and 3 percent excellent.

¢ Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 41 percent fair, 40 percent good and 6 percent excellent.
