The Monday Evening Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at nine tables directed by Virginia Seaver. Kent McCullough and Harry Shaffer were first among the North-South pairs, winning first in A. Jeanne Landry and Ruth Amsbaugh won second and Bob Hemenway and Pete Peillo were third. Eldon and Glenna Herd won first in B, followed by Betty Spalsbury and Bob Anderson, who were second in B and first in C.

Cathy and Mike Blumenfeld led the East-West pairs, winning first in A, B and C. Emily Foster and Russ LaForce were second in A, B and C, and Gary Joyce and Mary Beth Treece were third.

¢ A beginners course in duplicate bridge is starting at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Kaw Valley Bridge Center. For more information, contact Wanna Roszel at 331-0568.

¢ The Northeast Kansas unit of the American Contract Bridge League had its bi-annual Jayhawker Regional Tournament Sept. 7-11 in Lawrence. There were 34 separate games played with 434 players participating. Twelve states were represented, plus one province from Canada.

Alan Stout, Mount Home, Ark., and Don Stack, Overland Park, who are the leading bridge players of 2005 for North America, attended the tournament.

Fifty-five Lawrence bridge players earned master points during the competition. Shirley Reese, Glenna Herd and Ruth Amsbaugh earned their Life Masters.

¢ University Bridge Club announces the results of its Sept. 10 game. Hosts were Wilma and Roy Cropp and Isabelle and Carl Schaake.

Blue winners were Dale Kring, first; Iva Koleber, second; Lois Liebert, third; Florence McNicoll, fourth; and Leonard Fleske, fifth.

Pink winners were Mary Fleske, first; Jean Khatib, second; Bebe Huxtable, third; Jean Etherton, fourth; and Carol Smith, fifth.

¢ The Lawrence Accredited Music Teachers are sponsoring two recitals Thursday.

Those playing during a 7:15 p.m. recital will be Wyatt Bugh, Larresa Kelpin, Julia Munson, Max Munson, Mariam Ali, Wolfgang Ludwig, Ulrich Johanning, Karen McCain, Jaxon Turner, Kyrsten Turner and Michael Penny.

Those playing during the 7:50 p.m. recital will be Di Xie, Brian Chang, Jason Chang, Margaret Bireta, Samantha Schueler, Sarah Rucker, Benjamin Wong, Stephanie Jian and Kyle Chauvin.

These students represent the studios of Carol Cook, Mary Cornwell, Elaine de San Miguel, Alice Downs, Jean Drumm and Virginia Penny.
