Band to collect items for hurricane victims
The Lawrence High School marching band will collect nonperishable items for Hurricane Katrina victims Sunday as part of its annual Marathon Concert.
The concert will feature several performances from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lawrence High and will be come-and-go. A food sale and silent auction will also help raise funds for the band’s yearly trip.
The LHS band’s trip to New Orleans has been canceled with no new destination chosen.
But band members still wanted to aid hurricane victims, said Robin Jacobsen, of the LHS Band Parent organization. Canned food items, diapers, bottled water and other nonperishable items will be collected Sunday.
