Cyclist Armstrong, rocker Crow announce engagement

Austin, Texas – Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and rock star Sheryl Crow are engaged.

The cyclist announced the engagement in a statement Monday. He said he asked Crow last Wednesday while they were in Sun Valley, Idaho.

No wedding date has been set, although it could be a spring wedding, Armstrong spokesman Mark Higgins said.

Armstrong retired in July after winning his seventh straight Tour.

‘Suge’ Knight released after recovering from shooting

Miami Beach, Fla. – Marion “Suge” Knight, who was shot once in the leg at an MTV awards pre-party last month, has been released from the hospital.

Knight, 40, was released late last week, officials at Mt. Sinai Medical Center said Tuesday. They refused to release any other information, citing patient privacy regulations. Knight’s lawyer in Los Angeles didn’t immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Knight, founder of Death Row Records, was shot during a party hosted by Kanye West in the VIP room at the Shore Club prior to the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 28.

Knight underwent surgery to remove the bullet from his leg and repair a fractured bone.

‘Survivor’ runner-up arrested

Merced, Calif. – Katie Gallagher, runner-up on CBS’ “Survivor: Palau,” was arrested for drunken driving last week in her hometown.

Gallagher was held overnight and released Thursday morning, said Merced County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Scott Dover. Her next court appearance was set for Oct. 31.

Gallagher took home $100,000 in prize money after finishing second on “Survivor.” The former radio advertising representative spent 39 days on Palau, located about 530 miles southeast of the Philippines in the South Pacific.

NFL, ABC stick with Kanye

According to Allhiphop.com, the NFL and ABC still plan to keep rapper Kanye West on the bill of its opening pregame show Thursday night.

While appearing on NBC’s “A Concert for Hurricane Relief Friday,” West lambasted the Bush administration, saying it lacked concern for blacks in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, while he stood next to Mike Myers at the podium during the live broadcast. The networks censored the comments for the West Coast rebroadcast three hours later.

Stars to attempt ‘Emmy Idol’

Like “American Idol,” Sept. 18’s Emmy Awards will either have viewers nodding to unknown vocal talents or shrieking with horror as TV stars and singers croon a number of classic TV themes.

“Emmy Idol” will include William Shatner (“Boston Legal”) and opera star Frederica von Stade singing the theme from Shatner’s 1960s series, “Star Trek.”

Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace”) and Donald Trump (“The Apprentice”) will be cackling the “Green Acres” tune, and Gary Dourdan (“CSI”) and R&B artist Macy Gray will elevate their voices with “Movin’ On Up” from “The Jeffersons.”
