Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and media magnate Ted Turner will each deliver Landon Lectures at Kansas State University in Manhattan this fall, the university announced Sunday.

Gorbachev, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who led the Soviet Union for six years until its 1991 collapse, is scheduled to speak at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in McCain Auditorium.

Turner, who is best known for launching CNN and the Turner Broadcasting empire, is scheduled to speak at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 29.

Both speeches, which are part of Kansas State’s Landon Lecture series, are free to the public.

The lecture series is named for former Gov. Alf Landon, who died in 1987.

Landon was governor of Kansas for two terms in the 1930s and the Republican nominee for president in 1936, when President Franklin Roosevelt won his second term.
