Pitt State routs Fort Hays; ESU falls to Winona

? Germaine Race rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns as Pittsburg State beat Fort Hays State, 58-7, on Saturday night.

Pittsburg State (1-1) led only 3-0 on Nathan Alleman’s 21-yard field goal after the first quarter, but the Gorillas blew it open by halftime with four TDs.

Race scored on runs of 23 and nine yards, Andy Majors scored on a 20-yard run, and Majors connected with Pierce Curran on a 22-yard TD pass.

Fort Hays got its only score on a 22-yard pass from Reed Gottula to Tyler Manwarren midway through the second quarter.

Winona State 40, Emporia State 21

Winona, Minn. – Emporia State missed a chance to avenge a 2003 playoff loss to Winona State. Justin Whitworth passed for 264 yards and three touchdowns, and J.J. Richard caught six passes for 137 yards for the Hornets (1-1).
