A Lawrence man entered a plea Tuesday to three crimes involving a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.

Stephen C. Scott, 22, pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child. He will be sentenced Dec. 5.

Scott, age 21 at the time of the crimes, was originally charged with eight counts of rape. Police said his relationship with the girl lasted from late June 2004 to early September 2004.

The relationship came to light after conversations a school-resource officer had with other students at the girl’s school, police said. The case was classified as rape because, under Kansas law, children under 14 cannot legally consent to sex.
