Trio of events to benefit Health Care Access

Health Care Access needs volunteers to assist with several upcoming events, including the Stepping Out Against Breast Cancer Dance on Saturday, Seven on Seven Football Benefit event on Nov. 12, and the Health Care Access Clinic Holiday Homes Tour on Dec. 4. Volunteers are needed to assist with pre-event promotional activities, site setup and decoration, and event staffing. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Lawrence Memorial Hospital seeks volunteers for a variety of positions. Volunteers to assist patients at LMH South Outpatient Services and to staff the LMH Auxiliary Gift Shop are needed most. Volunteers are asked to make a three- to six-month commitment to volunteer three to four hours per week. Interested individuals may contact the Volunteer Office at LMH at 840-3141, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

¢ Lawrence Habitat ReStore is looking for volunteers with any of the following experience categories: hardware, construction, remodeling, retail, cashiering, customer service, janitorial or heavy lifting. Volunteers will assist with the general operation of a building-supply thrift store that sells donated building materials, surplus or gently used, at low cost to the community, in order to generate revenue for Lawrence Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that builds homes in partnership with families in need. Interested volunteers may contact K.H., manager of the ReStore, at 832-0777.

¢ The Greater Lawrence Christian Men’s Assn. needs volunteer assistance to coordinate, collect and deliver donated goods to victims of the Boardwalk Apartments fire. Volunteers may assist by staffing the donation site or by soliciting, organizing and distributing donations. Items needed include computer equipment and supplies; microwave ovens; small furniture including desks, tables, chairs, small couches, lamps and beds; other household items; and cookware. There is a great demand for volunteers who have the physical strength or large vehicles required to lift and move large donations. ¢ The Lawrence school district and the Boys and Girls Club seek volunteers to work with children ages 6 to 12 in after-school programs at several sites throughout Lawrence. Available volunteer opportunities include one-on-one tutoring or working with small groups on specific tasks and projects. Volunteers are needed after school hours from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
