A magic season on the big screen

There is lots of magic coming your way on the big screen this fall and winter. Here’s a guide to big hits of the season with the scheduled date of opening.

‘Chicken Little’

(Opens Nov. 4)

The story of this famous character gets a new twist in this Disney animated feature about the little chick who said the “sky is falling.” We bet fans of “Chicken Run” will like this animated animal movie. Expect fun special effects and a version of the story that you’ve never heard. Rated G.

‘Zathura’

(Opens Nov. 11)

Chris van Allsburg’s sequel picture book to “Jumanji” is now coming to the big screen. Rated PG.

‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’

(Opens Nov. 18)

Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) return to Hogwarts in Harry

Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, is sure to fire up moviegoers as the fourth book by J.K. Rowling opens with the Quidditch World Cup. Like most of you, we can’t wait to see the kids grow up. As Potter fans know, this book is a bit darker and scarier than the first three, and the movie is likely to be the same. Rated PG.

‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’

(Opens Dec. 9)

Another magical story written by C.S. Lewis comes to the big screen. This was once done years ago in a BBC television production that aired on PBS. If you haven’t read the tale of the “Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe,” the story is the adventure of children who enter the magical kingdom of Narnia and encounter an evil white witch. The tale of how they battle the evil and enlist the help of Aslan, a lion, and other critters and creatures is bound to be a big-screen hit. Rated PG.

‘Cheaper by the Dozen 2’

(Opens Dec. 21)

Steve Martin is back with Hilary Duff in a sequel to the first movie. Expect a light comedy and lots of laughs. Not yet rated.
