Christian Men’s Assn. looking to aid fire victims

The Greater Lawrence Christian Men’s Assn. needs volunteer assistance to coordinate, collect and deliver donated goods to victims of the Boardwalk Apartments fire. Volunteers may assist by staffing the donation site or by soliciting, organizing and distributing donations. Items needed include computer equipment and supplies; microwave ovens; small furniture including desks, tables, chairs, small couches, lamps and beds; other household items; and cookware. There is a great demand for volunteers who have the physical strength or large vehicles required to lift and move large donations. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Lawrence Memorial Hospital seeks volunteers for a variety of positions. Volunteers to assist patients at LMH South Outpatient Services and volunteers to staff the LMH Auxiliary Gift Shop are needed most. Volunteers are requested to make a three- to six-month commitment to volunteer three to four hours per week. Interested individuals may contact the Volunteer Office at LMH at 840-3141, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

¢ Douglas County Senior Services seeks friendly visitors to make in-home visits to homebound seniors, providing companionship and household assistance. Volunteers will report monthly to the volunteer coordinator. To volunteer, contact Mary Feltz at 842-0543.

¢ The Roger Hill Volunteer Center is looking for organizations and individuals to volunteer in a variety of projects during the months of October and November. Community organizations seek volunteers to complete projects including home construction and maintenance, organization of food and clothing pantries, painting and upkeep at community nonprofit organizations, and outdoor projects at parks, trails, and other sites. ¢ The Lawrence school district and the Boys and Girls Club seek volunteers to work with children ages 6 to 12 in after-school programs at several sites throughout Lawrence. Available volunteer opportunities include one-on-one tutoring or working with small groups on specific tasks and projects. Volunteers are needed after school hours from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and on Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Volunteers must be available work one or more days a week.
