Republicans select House replacement

October 15, 2005

— A Republican committee has selected Andover City Councilman Ty Masterson to serve out the rest of former Rep. Todd Novascone's term in the Kansas House.

Masterson was selected Thursday night to replace Novascone, who resigned from his 99th District seat last week to become the chief of staff for Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Kan. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius must still approve his selection.

Masterson is the founder and chief executive officer of two companies: MasterBuilt Homes Inc. and the real estate development company Masterson & Associates Inc. He was selected by an 18-14 vote over fellow City Council member Caroline Hale.

"I am just honored," Masterson said.

The 99th District covers parts of Sedgwick and Butler counties in the Wichita area.
