50th annual dog show slated this weekend

The Lawrence Jayhawk Kennel Club will hold its 50th annual dog show Saturday and Sunday at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Competition will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with the judging of different breeds.

A portion of Saturday’s events will be televised on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6.

Sunday’s competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day.

The show is open to the public, but baby strollers aren’t allowed, and only dogs entered in the show may be present.

Organizers also urge parents to have their children ask before petting any of the dogs.

“We’re expecting a big crowd this year,” said Cedric Devin, a member of the local kennel club. “It’s going to be a beautiful weekend.”

There also will be an obedience trial.

The Lawrence Hot Rod Assn. will display cars, and the Perry-Lecompton High School will hold an art show, Devin said.
