Ceremony to honor 20 returning reservists

A ceremony at 4 p.m. today will honor 20 reservists who served in Kuwait in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

With the 317th Quartermaster Battalion, they served as combat support. All who deployed with the unit will return, said Chief Warrant Officer Scott Franek. The unit left Oct. 12, 2004.

“We should welcome these citizen warriors after they were serving in the global war on terrorism. They had a very successful mission,” Franek said.

Army Reserve officials expect their bus from Fort Riley to pull in at 3:30 p.m. to the U.S. Army Reserve Center at 2100 Iowa. A welcome ceremony will begin at 4 p.m.

Maj. Gen. Rita Broadway, of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 89th Regional Readiness Command in Wichita, is expected to attend the ceremony along with state Rep. Barbara Ballard, Mayor Boog Highberger and others, Franek said.
