Flu shots available

Flu shots will be available at Dillons, 3000 W. Sixth St., between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.

The shots cost $25. Experts recommend that people at greatest risk for complications associated with the flu get a shot. But vaccinations will be available to the general public through the store’s pharmacy.

Pharmacies at other Dillons stores will give flu shots in the upcoming weeks. On Oct. 8, the Dillons on Massachusetts will offer shots.

Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Parkway, will offer shots between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays in October. Shots will cost $20, and Medicare participants should bring their card with them.

The Lawrence-Douglas Health Department will hold a flu shot clinic for people who fall into high priority groups from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. People in the high priority groups include the elderly, young children, pregnant women, people with chronic medical conditions and health care workers. Shots through the local health department will cost $20, however, no one will be denied service because of inability to pay. There will be no charge to Medicare participants, but they must bring their card.
