Organizers hope about 200 cars from northeast Kansas will enter Sunday’s 33rd Douglas County Antique Car Show.

“The show is for people to come out, show their cars and have a good time,” said Ralph Reschke, president of the Lawrence Antique Auto Club.

From 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, people can browse the entries.

Chevrolet cars made in 1955 to 1957 will be the featured vehicles, Reschke said.

But Sunday’s free show will display cars from many eras.

“We usually have cars from the ’20s all the way up to the ’70s and ’80s,” Reschke said.

Reschke will have four vehicles on display: a 1930 Model A, two-door Coupe; a 1955 Plymouth Convertible; a 1955 Plymouth Belvedere two-door hard top; and a 1977 Chrysler Cordoba.

His first car was just like the hard top he now owns, Reschke said.

“I’ve always been a nut about cars since I was old enough to walk,” he said.

The Lawrence club has about 40 members, who are equally enthusiastic about cars, Reschke said.

The club hosts a SWAP Meet every spring that features thousands of car vendors and also donates to local charities. Club members also help students of the Lawrence Auto Club, Reschke said.

The group also supports the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds and provides two $1,000 scholarships per year to Lawrence students who express an interest in working in the automotive industry, he said.

Most of Sunday’s antique car show will be outside, and the club will award 10 trophies to design winners in classes by year, Reschke said.

“We’ll be there rain or shine. Hopefully it will be shiny though,” he said.
