Many offices, services closed for holiday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed today and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.

They also will be closed in most area towns.

All city, county and state offices will be closed today and Friday. Federal offices in the General Services Administration will be closed today.

Banks will be closed today.

The Lawrence Transit System’s buses and the T Lift will not run today and will return to regular schedule Friday.

On Friday, the arrival of Santa Claus between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the rooftop of Weaver’s Department Store at Ninth and Massachusetts streets may disrupt bus routes.

City of Lawrence trash collection will be altered to make today’s pickups on Friday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed today.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be closed today and Friday.

Douglas County Senior Services Inc. and the Lawrence Senior Center will close today and Friday. All activities and meals will be canceled. Meals will not be served at Babcock Place, Edgewood Place, Lecompton, Eudora and Baldwin. All who receive home-delivered meals should have already received them for the week, senior service officials said.

Recreation centers will be closed today, and only the East Lawrence and Holcom Park recreation centers and the Community Building will reopen from noon to 6 p.m. Friday. All centers will resume their normal hours on Saturday.

The post office won’t make deliveries today and will return to regular schedule Friday. Express Mail deliveries will be made today.

Only UPS SonicAir is available today. Only UPS air and international deliveries will be made Friday.

The Lawrence Workforce Center will be closed today and Friday.

Liquor stores will be closed today.

The business office at the Journal-World will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. today.

USA Today won’t be delivered today.
