To the editor:

The reason for this letter is to show thankfulness for all the wonderful people of Lawrence on Thanksgiving Day.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Gloria Madere. I am a survivor of Hurricane Katrina. With the help of so many nice people, I am fortunate to spend Thanksgiving Day with my daughter and son-in-law who came to pick me up from a horrible situation. The Journal-World and 6News deserve a lot of credit for placing the story, along with all the people who donated clothes, money for gas and items that were greatly needed, Morning Star Church that gave a gift card to buy clothes, and Dr. Vanhorn and staff for the replacement of dentures. Now I can really enjoy turkey!

The friendships that I have already made will remain with me for the rest of my life!
