Lawrence Police are distributing ribbons and encouraging people to tie them on their vehicles to raise awareness of drunken driving.

The ribbons are available at the department’s window on the second floor of the Judicial & Law Enforcement Center, 111 E. 11th St. They’re being distributed as part of the annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving “Tie One on for Safety” campaign.

Of the 461 traffic fatalities in Kansas in 2004, 148 were alcohol-related, according to the police department.
