Quiet zone on agenda for traffic commission

Lawrence’s Traffic Safety Commission will discuss at its December meeting whether a quiet zone should be established in North Lawrence that would prohibit trains from blowing their whistles through the area.

The commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

Other items on the commission’s agenda include:

¢ Requests to establish midblock pedestrian crossings on New Hampshire Street between Sixth Street and Seventh Street and between Eighth Street and Ninth Street.

¢ Request for an all-way stop sign or a traffic signal at the intersection of 10th and Vermont streets.

¢ Request to add traffic-calming devices on 13th Street between Connecticut Street and Haskell Avenue.

The Traffic Safety Commission is an advisory board for the Lawrence City Commission, and none of its decisions take effect unless approved by city commissioners.
