With cold weather here, the city of Lawrence is looking for people to help neighbors with winter chores.
On Thursday, city leaders launched the second season of the "Safe Winter Walkways" program. It matches able-bodied Lawrence residents with elderly or disabled neighbors. Volunteers commit to shovel a neighbor's sidewalk each time it snows.
City law requires homeowners to shovel their walkways to keep them safe for pedestrians.
The Roger Hill Volunteer Center is registering volunteers. To get involved, call 832-3338 or sign up at www.lawrenceks.org.
