KU relay team takes second at invite

? A second-place finish Friday in the 400-meter medley relay highlighted the opening day of competition for the Kansas University swimming and diving team at the Minnesota Invite.

Twelve teams are competing in the three-day event.

The KU squad of junior Jenny Short, freshman Danielle Herrmann, freshman Ashley Leidigh and sophomore Terri Schramka set a school record of 3 minutes, 44.94 seconds in the medley relay.

It’s also the eighth fastest time in the country this season.

Junior Shelby Noonan finished fourth in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 301.70, while the Jayhawks also took fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.

On the strength of victories over Missouri State and Iowa, Kansas moved up one spot to its current position of 23rd in the national rankings in the latest poll released Thursday.
