New York ? Florida coach Billy Donovan is learning more each game about his young Gators.

Taurean Green had 23 points and keyed a late second-half run in Florida’s 75-70 victory over No. 16 Syracuse on Friday night in the championship game of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.

“They are young and eager just to be out there playing,” Donovan said. “There’s a lot of unselfishness with them.”

Florida (4-0) trailed 62-60 with 6:43 left before going on a 12-0 run. Green, named MVP of the tournament, had eight points during that span, including a three-pointer with 1:52 left to cap the spurt and give the Gators a 72-62 lead, their biggest of the game.

Malibu, Calif. – Josh Boone scored 18 points, and Connecticut put away pesky Pepperdine in the second half.

No. 5 Villanova 78, Stony Brook 35

Villanova, Pa. – Randy Foye scored 21 points, and Allan Ray added 16 as Villanova opened its season with a victory over Stony Brook. Mike Nardi added 13 points for Villanova.

No. 9 Gonzaga 69, Idaho 60

Spokane, Wash. – J.P. Batista scored 23 points, including three straight baskets with the game on the line, and Gonzaga beat Idaho.

No. 11 Boston College 80, Dartmouth 61

Boston – Craig Smith had 22 points and nine rebounds as Boston College beat Dartmouth. Jared Dudley had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Sean Marshall scored 15 and Louis Hinnant 12 for the Eagles, who received their highest preseason ranking since 1967.

No. 17 Illinois 90, South Dakota State 65

Champaign, Ill. – Dee Brown scored 19 points, and James Augustine had 18 and 14 rebounds to power Illinois.

No. 23 Indiana 99, Nicholls State 65

Bloomington, Ind. – Marco Killingsworth had 28 points and 13 rebounds in his Indiana debut, and Marshall Strickland added a career-high 25 points to lead Indiana.

No. 24 Maryland 111, Fairleigh Dickinson 85

College Park, Md. – Mike Jones had 22 points off the bench, and Maryland had five other players score in double figures.
