Student forum to discuss sacred lands

Student groups from Haskell Indian Nations University and Kansas University will host a forum, “Respecting the Sacred: San Francisco Peaks and the Haskell/Baker Wetlands,” today at Haskell Auditorium.

The forum includes a 5:30 p.m. showing of “Snowbowl Effect,” a documentary film on efforts to expand ski trails within the San Francisco Peaks area near Flagstaff, Ariz.

A 6:30 p.m. panel discussion on issues surrounding preservation of sacred lands will feature:

¢ Dr. Michael Yellow Bird, director of the Center for Indigenous Nations Studies at KU.

¢ Dan Wildcat and Lucia Orth, American Indian Studies faculty members at Haskell.

Indian tacos will sold at 7 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. concert featuring Blackfire, a Navajo band from Black Mesa, Ariz.
