The 7U-A Coed Hurricanes completed their second undefeated season in a row Saturday.

The Hurricanes, led by head coach Mark Unruh, knocked off the Bobcats 9-5 Saturday at Youth Sports Inc.

The Hurricanes jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back the entire game. Hurricane Cade Burghart got on the board first by using his speed and athleticism. Burghart dribbled through four defenders and slammed the ball with his left foot into the back of the net.

Francisco Flores continued the offensive onslaught for the Hurricanes during the first quarter to give his team a 2-0 lead.

The Bobcats proved to be a tough opponent by not folding under the pressure of playing an undefeated team. Bobcat Josh Waisner took an open-field shot that found an empty goal to give the Bobcats their first goal of the game.

However, the rest of the first quarter belonged to the Hurricanes. They scored three goals before the whistle blew to end the period. Hurricane Jacob Unruh started the scoring streak with a shot that bounced off the goal post and ricocheted into the goal.

Hurricanes D.J. Davis and Braden Solko followed up Unruh’s goal, as the two teammates scored quick goals within a one-minute stretch to end the quarter with a 5-1 lead.

Solko jumped right back on the Bobcats to start the second quarter by outrunning the Bobcats to chip a ball past the goal line for the Hurricanes’ sixth goal of the morning.

The Bobcats were able to start a mini rally during the remainder of the second quarter that was partially brought on by Jason Edmonds, a parent sitting on the sideline.

“Go out there and score two goals,” Edmonds told his son Jack Edmonds before Jack was substituted into the game.

Jack Edmonds proceeded to score two goals just like his father told him to. The first goal came on a breakaway, with the second coming on a tussle in front of the net where Edmonds was able to tap the ball into the goal. Edmonds’ two goals left the score 6-3 at halftime.

The third quarter was a defensive struggle for both teams as they went scoreless for the entire frame.

The Bobcats continued their comeback during the fourth quarter. They scored two additional goals, but their efforts proved to be too little at the end of the game.

Solko added two more goals of his own during the fourth quarter to help the Hurricanes win 9-5 and preserve their second straight undefeated season.
