An Overbrook man was injured Tuesday evening when his car struck a deer that had already been struck once by another vehicle, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Dennis D. McPhail, 56, was taken by helicopter ambulance to University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan. No condition report was available Tuesday night.

Shortly before 6 p.m., McPhail was driving a 1999 Toyota eastbound on U.S. Highway 56 just east of Baldwin when he ran over a deer in the roadway, the Highway Patrol report said. The car went out of control and overturned in the ditch.

The deer had apparently already been struck by another vehicle, the report said.

Law enforcement officers have been warning motorists to be cautious while driving this time of year because it is the height of the deer mating season and more deer are on the move.
