Thunderstorms likely today, with chance of flooding tonight

Lawrence has a chance of rain showers this morning, with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening and flooding rains overnight.

6News meteorologist Jennifer Schack says that the severe weather of Wednesday basically passed by Lawrence. “There was just enough rain to wet the pavement,” she said.

The storm systems retreated north after delivering hail to Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties, and will take a while to get moving again today. Once they do, the entire area can expect heavy rains. All of northeast Kansas will be under a Flood Watch from 1 p.m. today until 7 a.m. Friday morning.

The severe weather should have moved on to the east by tomorrow, leaving behind rain showers for most of Friday.

At 8:45, the temperature was 66, humidity was at 78 percent, and winds were at 9 mph. Today’s high will be 80, with winds from 8 to 15 mph.

The overnight low will be 57, with temperatures only rising to 67 for Friday’s high. The weekend should not be rainy, with highs in the upper 60s.
