Washington ? A massive war spending bill signed by President Bush on Wednesday includes more than $90 million for improvements at Fort Riley, Kan., including a new Operational Readiness Training Center.

The funds include $75 million for construction at the Army post near Junction City, Kan., to help accommodate next year’s arrival of the 6th Brigade of the 25th Infantry Division.

The new brigade will bring about 3,400 soldiers to the post, along with thousands of family members and as many as 1,000 civil service employees.

“As we begin to look at bringing troops back from overseas military installations, it is important that we continue to provide all of the necessary housing, administration and training facilities for them to carry out their mission,” said Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan.

The infusion of funds comes just days before the Pentagon is to release its list of proposed military base closures and realignments. Roberts, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has said he expects all four Kansas major military bases to fare well.

Fort Riley has about 11,500 soldiers and more than 3,000 civilian employees.
