KU receives accreditation renewal

A committee that toured Kansas University earlier this year has recommended full accreditation for the university.

The 10-year accreditation renewal would be from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities.

The recommendation now goes to a North Central Association panel that will further review and evaluate the report and documents. That panel’s recommendation then will be forwarded to the association’s Institutional Actions Council and its board of trustees, with final action expected in late June.

The accreditation reports often serve as a road map for future university planning. Areas of improvement recommended by the accreditation committee include:

  • Pursuing a more selective admissions policy than other universities in Kansas.
  • Disseminating information about KU’s service and outreach efforts through the external affairs unit.
  • Pursuing relief from more state regulatory restrictions.
  • Focus on repair, renovation and replacement of obsolete facilities.
