New assault reported near residence hall

Kansas University police are looking for a man suspected of grabbing a woman and pushing her to the ground early Saturday in a residence hall parking lot.

The attack happened about 2:30 a.m. in an employee parking lot west of Gertrude Sellards Pearson Hall. The woman hit the suspect in the face and kneed him in the groin to fight him off, according to police.

He then struck her in the face and fled.

The man was described as a white male about 5 feet 11 inches tall and 190 pounds with brown hair. He was wearing a black long-sleeved T-shirt, black pants and black gloves.

A series of violent crimes in KU residence hall parking lots in recent years has led to a plan to install surveillance cameras, but some students have criticized the school for not moving quickly enough. An update on the project wasn’t available Monday.

Teen baby sitter accused of sexual abuse

Lawrence Police are investigating a 13-year-old girl who’s accused of sodomizing and sexually abusing two 7-year-old girls she was baby-sitting.

Police say the sitter allegedly touched the girls inappropriately on two occasions between February and April. The teen was baby-sitting the girls at the home of one of the victims, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a police spokesman.

Police have questioned the baby sitter, but she has not been taken into custody.

The case remains under investigation, Ward said. It’s being investigated as a case of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated criminal sodomy.

The mother of one of the victims reported allegations to police.

Suspect with gun faces assault charge

A man pulled a handgun on a group of women early Sunday in a downtown parking lot during a fight that began in a nearby club, police said.

Police arrested the 19-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man on suspicion of aggravated assault.

The incident happened about 2:30 a.m. in the parking lot next to Borders, 700 N.H.

According to police, the man’s girlfriend was involved in a fight on the dance floor at Last Call, 729 N.H. The fight continued in the parking lot, and the man pulled the gun because his girlfriend was being beaten, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a police spokesman.

Five Kansas City, Kan., women were listed as victims.
