Clinic targets

To the editor:

Among the procedures that are frequently done in clinics are plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, dental surgery and cataract surgery. It might be wise to have all surgical clinics monitored by the Department of Health and Environment to set standards for screenings, ventilation and lighting.

However, since the bill that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed covered only abortion clinics, it is clear that the legislation was only concerned with making women’s right to choose more difficult and expensive. If the bill had been concerned with minimum health and safety standards, it would have covered all clinics that provide surgery. And the governor would probably have signed it.
