March going out like a lamb

March came in like a lion this year — with bitter 7-degree morning wind chills. And, true to the saying, it’s going out more like a lamb — temperatures topped out this afternoon in the upper 50s under cloudy skies and just a bit of a breeze.

“We see our winds lighter out of the north today,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

At 5:30 p.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 54, with a northerly 8-mph wind, making the wind chill 52 degrees. The high recorded today at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 57 degrees at 4 p.m.,

Most of the precipitation pushing up from the southwest into Kansas will stay to the south and west of the Lawrence area, although the area will see plenty of clouds, Schack said.

The temperature will fall overnight to a low of 35 by Friday morning, climbing to a high of 57 by Friday afternoon, Schack said. Skies will be mostly sunny.

Saturday will start cold, but get into some warmer weather by midday. Saturday’s morning low will be 30, climbing to a high of 69 by Saturday afternoon under mostly sunny skies.
