K. Leone Hemenway, Boulder

? A celebration of life for K. Leone Hemenway, 87, Boulder, will be at 2 p.m. today at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Boulder. Burial will be at 10 a.m. in Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.

Mrs. Hemenway died Monday, March 28, 2005, at Boulder Manor from natural causes.

She was born Oct. 21, 1917, in Maskell, Neb. She received her Associate of Arts degree from Wayne (Neb.) State Teachers College in 1939 and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., in 1964.

Mrs. Hemenway taught in one-room schools for three years in Nebraska and in elementary schools for 25 years in Nebraska, Iowa and Colorado. She also taught at Flatirons and Lincoln schools in the Boulder Valley School District. She volunteered at Flatirons Elementary School and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church’s Rainbow Day Care Center from 1982 to 1989. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, National Education Assn., Nebraska State Education Assn., Colorado State Education Assn. and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school from 1967 to 1985.

She married Myrle Hemenway on May 21, 1940, in Maskell. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Robert Hemenway, Lawrence, Kan.; and a daughter, Pamela Hemenway Simpson, Lexington, Va.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
