School finance countdown

13 days: The state Supreme Court has given lawmakers until April 12 to produce a constitutional school finance plan.

Wednesday’s highlights

  • The Legislature completed work on a $125.2 million funding increase for schools. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius opposes the measure, but she said she would forward it to the Kansas Supreme Court as soon as possible so the court could review it.
  • Kansas University’s Wayne Simien received accolades from state officials during a visit to the Capitol. The All-American is completing a four-year career at KU.
