Salary slant

To the editor:

I found your article about the trend in annual salary as it correlates to college education quite interesting. I was particularly intrigued by the figure of $66,000 for white males with bachelor’s degrees. Being one of those, plus having around 60 college hours beyond a bachelor’s degree, at first I thought the figure must be wrong. After all, I’ve worked in my field ten years yet I earn barely a hair beyond HALF that amount. As I sat down to write a letter explaining that the figure is surely in error, I realized the error must be my own. The census likely didn’t include my profession in the category of “professional” income. After all, I’m ONLY a teacher.
