Mary Blanche Tate Thomas, Evans, Ga.

? Services for Mary Blanche Tate Thomas, 89, Evans, Ga., will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church in Augusta. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park in Augusta.

Mrs. Thomas died Monday, March 28, 2005, at University Hospital in Augusta.

She was born July 18, 1915, in Tupelo, Miss., the daughter of E.D. and Mary Verda Elder Tate. She attended nursing school in Amory, Miss., and spent most of her life in Augusta.

Mrs. Thomas retired from University Hospital as director of adult critical care nursing. She helped open the first intensive care and coronary care unit in Augusta. She was an active member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church and a past president of Augusta Women’s Club. She was a member of the American Heart Assn., and she worked the first aid station at the Augusta National Golf Club during the Masters tournament for 28 years.

She married Robert Bernard Thomas Sr. He died earlier.

Survivors include two sons, Henry B. Thomas, Thomson, and Robert Bernard Thomas Jr., Augusta; two daughters, Mariann Bradley, Lawrence, Kan., and Carol Schattscheider, Monroe, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Platt’s Funeral Home in Evans.
