Surprise, Ariz. ? Opening-day starter Jose Lima pitched four solid innings Tuesday, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Los Angeles Angels, 10-9.

Lima gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven. He’ll start Monday at Detroit for the Royals.

“He threw 83 pitches, but he could have gone up to 100 pitches,” Royals manager Tony Pena said. “He threw the ball good. He had better velocity.”

Lima gave up a double to Darin Erstad and a walk to Chone Figgins to start the game, but recovered to strike out Vladimir Guerrero and Steve Finley and retire Garret Anderson on a fly to center.

K.C. outfielder Emil Brown went 2-for-4 with his fifth home run of the spring.

Royals rookie left-handed reliever Andrew Sisco left in the sixth inning because of a sprained right ankle.
