FCE and 4-H news

Douglas County Family and Community Education in cooperation with K-State Research & Extension Family and Consumer Sciences is offering a program “Color Me Healthy” at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St.

The program will be given by Connie Detweiler, K-State Research and Extension family nutrition program assistant. The lesson will describe the benefits of eating many colors of fruits and vegetables. Resources for fresh produce selection, handling and preparation will be shared. A minimal fee will be charged.

To register, call the Extension Office at 843-7058. The program is open to the public.

  • Colton Horne, junior president, called the monthly meeting of the Palmyra 4-H Club to order March 3 at Ives Chapel Church in Baldwin. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite lucky charm. Kaitlyn Christie, junior secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting. Olivia Beins, junior treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report.

Kim Davis, Douglas County Extension agent in 4-H youth development, attended the meeting. Mark Jehle, Pioneers 4-H Club member; Amy Stone, Vinland Valley 4-H Club member; and Kaleb Horne, Palmyra 4-H Club member, gave a presentation on camps available at Rock Springs 4-H Center.

Olivia Beins, Kaitlyn Christie and Katy Patrick led the club in singing “4-H Spirit.” Brianna Krysztof and Emily Krysztof gave a project talk in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. They passed out green egg and ham snacks. Katie Krysztof gave a project talk on Roberts Rules of Order. Michaela Krysztof played a piano solo.

The club’s next meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 6 at the church.
