Former Eudora resident charged with sex crimes

A former Eudora resident has been charged with five counts of rape, four counts of aggravated sodomy and four counts of indecent liberties.

The 41-year-old Mission Hills man was charged with the crimes during his first appearance Wednesday in Douglas County District Court. Many of the alleged incidents involved children, officials said.

He was arrested and booked into Douglas County Jail on Monday. The Journal-World does not identify defendants in sex crime cases unless they are convicted.

The arrest resulted from an investigation by the Eudora Police Department.

Eudora Police Chief Greg Dahlem said officers began investigating the man after a complaint was filed in October. He said the suspect lived in Eudora “for a period of time.”

Dahlem said the police department had professional psychologists interview alleged victims, of which there were at least two.

The crimes were allegedly committed from November 2001 to July 2004, according to Assistant Dist. Atty. Bob Claus.

The man’s only comment at the hearing was that he had hired Greg Robinson as his attorney.

Contacted by the Journal-World, Robinson said he had represented the man in a previous case in which the suspect had been charged with committing an act of lewd and lascivious behavior on Aug. 29, 2004. Court records show that the man entered a plea of “no contest” to that charge on Jan. 24.

“I did represent him on that matter,” Robinson said. “But I was unaware of what happened today. I can’t really comment on it.”

The man’s bond was set at $75,000. His next court appearance was set for 2 p.m. Monday before Douglas County District Court Judge Jack Murphy.
