The Lawrence school board is expected today to select the architects to prepare plans for school construction and renovations should two bond issues be approved by voters in the April 5 general election.

Last month the school district requested proposals for the projects from five local architectural firms, and four firms responded. A committee composed of two board members, district officials and the DLR Group reviewed the proposals and have made a recommendation to the board.

The committee recommends the following three firms, all from Lawrence: Gould Evans, Treanor and GLPM.

The recommendation is for Gould Evans to draw plans for construction of a new South Junior High School and renovations to Southwest Junior High School; Treanor for renovations at Central and West junior high schools; and GLPM for renovations at Lawrence and Free State high schools.

The school board also will have a second reading on district boundary changes for Deerfield and Quail Run schools. The final item on the agenda is a report and demonstration of Probeware educational hardware and software.

The board also will be introduced to the new South Junior High principal.

Today’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at district headquarters, 110 McDonald Drive.
