Honor Recital winners to perform tonight

Twelve Lawrence-area musicians will perform 7 p.m. today at the Honor Recital Concert at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

The free concert was designed to recognize and encourage talented young musicians by providing them with professional performance opportunities. It was funded by a donation from the Stephen Paul Wunsch Foundation for Young Musicians.

The Honor Recital musicians are Evan Hunter, trumpet; Stephanie Jian, piano; Hannah Nusz, alto sax; Boning Zhang, piano; Masa Ohtake, trombone; Katy Kline and Kyle Chauvin, piano duet; Mark Laccheo, piano; Kirill Mimiaev, flute; John Bond, piano; Michael Jordan, trombone; and Kyle Chauvin, piano.

Five of the musicians — Hunter, Jian, Jordan, Chauvin and Kline — have been invited to play on Kansas Public Radio (91.5 FM) at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Art guild member to discuss Italy trip

The Lawrence Art Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. March 21 at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

The meeting’s educational program will feature Linda Baranski, Lawrence Art Guild vice president, producing artist and volunteer for regional cultural programs. She was one of the 2004 Lawrence Art Guild Opportunity Grant winners and will discuss her October 2004 trip to Italy, including the classical mosaic classes she attended in Ravenna.
