Police are conducting an investigation and no other information was being released late Sunday. The child’s parents were in the car when the incident occurred, Sgt. Craig Shanks said.

Grass fire reported south of Eudora

Firefighters from three departments battled a large grass fire Sunday south of Eudora.

The fire burned about 30 acres on property belonging to Herb Stone, 1097 East 2100 Road, about 2 miles south of Eudora, Eudora Township Fire Chief Barry Larson said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 1:44 p.m. and extinguished it by 3:30 p.m., Larson said. Firefighters from the city of Eudora and Wakarusa Township were called in to assist, and about 15 firefighters fought the blaze, he said.

A neighbor was conducting a burn when high winds put the fire out of control and caused it to spread, Larson said.
