Law enforcement report

Lawrence Police said Friday that in the past 24 hours they’d handled:

  • 333 calls
  • 34 reports
  • three burglaries
  • four thefts
  • eight noninjury accidents
  • Lawrence Police on Wednesday arrested a 40-year-old Lawrence man on suspicion of using a false prescription to buy painkillers at Hy-Vee, 4000 W. Sixth St. Police arrested the man after finding him at the store.
  • Police are investigating an allegation that a 12-year-old girl was touched inappropriately by her 15-year-old stepbrother. The incident happened in February and was reported to the police by the state’s department of Social and Rehabilitative Services.

Police have sent a copy to the District Attorney’s office for possible charges.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 58-year-old man told police someone stole his 1986 Suzuki Samurai motorcycle valued at $1,000. The theft happened between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of Packer Road.
  • Someone stole 130 goose decoys valued at $1,800 from a field south of Lawrence, according to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report. The items disappeared between 7 p.m. Feb. 24 and 7 a.m. Feb. 25, but the report wasn’t released until Friday.
  • An Overbrook woman reported to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office she was scammed when she wired money to buy a $4,500 sewing machine on the Internet from someone in London. She wired the money, but the item never arrived.

  • Detector activation, no fire, unintentional, 1:58 p.m. Thursday, 1502 Iowa
  • Alarm system sounded, no fire, unintentional, 7:13 a.m. Thursday, 1345 Jayhawk Blvd.
