Awesome event

To the editor:

There is nothing in Lawrence that brings the community together better than Project Graduation. Year after year, the community calls upon businesses to help sponsor what has become a landmark graduation effort for all of the graduating seniors in Lawrence. The goal of Project Graduation is to provide a safe, drug- and alcohol-free environment for the kids of Lawrence.

Again, in 2005, we succeeded because no one said “no.” Every business contacted gave us more than we asked for. Parents were willing to work two and three shifts to make sure that this event would be successful. (Even parents having to go to work the next day!) We gave out more cash prizes than ever before – the food was never-ending – and the car was everything we had hoped for (cute and sporty). Thank you Crown Chevrolet! Abe and Jake’s, with the financial support of the Lawrence Journal-World, was a beehive of positive activity – what an awesome place to have a party!

What can we say but a heartfelt thanks to all of our wonderful supporters and, most of all, to our terrific committees and committee chairs that outdid themselves. We should all be proud of how well behaved and appreciative the graduating seniors were. It reaffirms the reason that all of us have chosen to raise our kids here: Lawrence is a wonderful place to be.
